This vest has been the greatest addition to my running/hiking/mtb gear! I have been lucky enough to log so many miles in it over the course of the last 5-6 weeks. One of the first things I noticed about it is how much smaller it is than my current vest, it holds 1L of water, and due to the smaller bladder it sits a bit higher on my back & chest. Took a couple days to get used to (I’d been wearing my other vest for 5 years), but once I settled into it I could barely workout without it!
The vest has a zipper pocket over the bladder in the back, which was generally where I stashed my keys. And it has bungie cords on the outside on the back, great for putting my rain cover in there and would probably hold some other gear too. It has two pockets that go over the shoulders, which is where I have been stashing my fig bars. Then two front bottle pockets, aka phone holder and buff holder, but may turn into actual bottle pockets when I go my ultra races. And finally two tiny pockets on front of the bottle holders, mine currently have a tube of salt and a thing of chapstick in them. Overall, it feels like plenty of storage space, I even have room to carry around a small stick of body glide, hahaha.
Now let’s talk about ALL of the awesome adventures this pack can take you on, or you can take it on, lol. I did a ton of road running in it, lots of trail runs, a few hikes, and then I took it mountain biking. I usually just have a bottle cage when mountain biking and let me say that having this vest is a total game changer!! I can actually get to my water, without feeling like I am going to hit a tree or accidentally ride off a mountain side. It made riding so much more comfortable, plus I didn’t have to keep checking my shorts pocket to make sure my car keys didn’t fall out (I tend to be a bit nervous about stuff like that). I honestly cannot imagine riding without this vest now!
The only area where Orange Mud could improve the vest would be finding a way to keep the water tube from flopping around. I ended up tucking mine into the front pocket when I wasn’t actively drinking from it, otherwise it was all over the place. Obviously not a deal breaker, but having it held down by something would just make it more comfortable. But I recommend this vest 100%, and their other gear too! I have their transition wrap towel thing and I love it!!
